BANDAI’s Gashapon brand has unveiled the “Ikimono Daizukan PREMIUM Cat” Articulated Figure, marking the line’s first attempt at turning a domestic cat into a highly articulated, realistic animal figure. Along with natural coat patterns, big round eyes, and fine whiskers, it can be posed sitting, walking, scratching, grooming, and performing other familiar feline behaviors. Four interchangeable faces are also included. The figure comes in three coat patterns—orange tabby-and-white, brown tabby-and-white, and tuxedo—measures approximately 10.8 cm long, and is priced at 7,700 yen each, including tax. Preorders open October 23, 2026, with shipping scheduled for late February 2027.
The “Ikimono Daizukan” series has previously tackled insects, reptiles, and a wide range of wild animals, using detailed sculpting, paintwork, and joint engineering to capture each creature’s appearance and movement. One earlier release, the “Ikimono Daizukan Display Model Collection: Wild Cats,” recreated species including the Bengal tiger and snow leopard as display figures. This time, the development team turned its attention to the familiar house cat, closely studying feline flexibility and joint structure to make the figure move as naturally as the real thing.
The internal articulation of this Cat figure is made from materials including POM and ABS, while the exterior uses soft PVC. This construction preserves a natural feline silhouette as collectors adjust the legs and body. Whether it is strolling on all fours, sitting patiently, raising a hind leg to scratch, or lounging on its side, each pose can be recreated through its extensive articulation. Even the cat’s signature fine whiskers are made from nylon, giving the finished figure an even more lifelike appearance.
The set also includes four interchangeable faces with distinct expressions: a standard wide-eyed look, an intense squint as the cat prepares to hunt, a blissful eyes-closed expression for scratching, and an adorable tongue-out face for licking its paw. Mix and match the faces with different poses to capture everything from an innocent stare directed at its owner to the focused look of a cat ready to pounce. Pairing the grooming face with a raised front paw makes it look just like the furry little ruler of the house during its daily cleaning routine.
