Good Smile Company’s mecha-focused MECHA SMILE brand unveiled a new prototype for its THE GATTAI line during yesterday’s “THE GATTAI DX DANDIVINE Unboxing Livestream.” Based on the original robot anime “Beast King Warlord Dandivine,” the mysterious Lion-Type Mecha (Tentative Name) is currently in development, with no release date announced.

“Beast King Warlord Dandivine” is the first entry in Good Smile Company’s God of Combined Series, a new project celebrating the model and toy maker’s 25th anniversary. The production brings together major industry partners including Aniplex, Takara Tomy, and Toei. The story begins 20 years after the combining robot Dandivine defeated the mysterious Aposdoll and restored peace to humanity. Kasuga, the toy manufacturer that once became a sensation with its Dandivine merchandise, has since fallen into a steady decline. Its president desperately wishes for Dandivine’s return at any cost—and, as if on cue, the Aposdoll suddenly reappear. High school student Gekiha Shijima becomes Dandivine’s new pilot as a brand-new battle begins.
First revealed in the anime’s third episode, the mysterious Lion-Type Mecha (Tentative Name) abruptly enters the battle when Dandivine is cornered by an Aposdoll. It transforms into robot mode and destroys the enemy in a single strike. Because the toy and anime mecha designs were developed simultaneously, the newly displayed THE GATTAI Lion-Type Mecha (Tentative Name) prototype faithfully recreates its on-screen appearance. The standalone unit is nearly as large as the fully combined four-mecha THE GATTAI DX DANDIVINE, and it also features a yet-to-be-revealed robot transformation system.

Additionally, several unused connection points on the completed THE GATTAI DX DANDIVINE—including tabs on the soles of its feet—will factor into the Lion-Type Mecha’s transformation and combination system. That strongly suggests the two machines will combine into a classic powered-up form straight out of super robot anime tradition.
