Japanese toy giant MEDICOM TOY, known for its 6-inch articulated figure line "MAFEX," has officially announced a new addition to its DC Comics "The Return of Superman" series: the highly anticipated "Cyborg Superman" figure! This follows their previous release of the black-suited "Superman" from the same comic storyline. The figure is slated for a May 2022 release.
Standing approximately 16 cm (about 6.3 inches) tall, this articulated figure meticulously recreates Cyborg Superman's iconic half-human, half-machine appearance from "The Return of Superman" comic. Beyond the classic red and blue suit and the prominent "S" emblem on his chest, the silver metallic body parts feature intricate sculpting. The head sculpt, in particular, conveys a menacing aura. Collectors can also swap his right forearm for a massive cannon arm, allowing for dynamic attack poses when combined with the included effect parts. The fabric cape boasts excellent drape, making even a simple standing pose look incredibly imposing.
About Cyborg Superman:
To understand Cyborg Superman, one must first know Hank Henshaw. He first appeared in the 1990 comic "Adventures of Superman" #466. In the story, Hank was a brilliant scientist and pilot. During a LexCorp space mission, Hank, his wife Terri, and two other crew members were exposed to cosmic radiation. Upon returning to Metropolis, they sought treatment using LexCorp's equipment, which inadvertently led to a confrontation with Superman. Although the misunderstanding was eventually resolved, Hank tragically lost his wife and two colleagues, and his own body was destroyed.
However, Hank's consciousness survived within LexCorp's computers. He constructed a mechanical body and traveled into space aboard a spacecraft. Later, Hank used Superman's Birthing Matrix to replicate Superman's DNA, combining it with his own mechanical parts to become the half-human, half-machine "Cyborg Superman." With his mental state severely unstable, Hank returned to Earth to exact his revenge on Superman.
