Japanese toy manufacturer Aoshima Bunka Kyozai (AOSHIMA アオシマ), renowned for its automotive and motorcycle models, is set to release another iconic main Labor from the classic anime "Mobile Police Patlabor" within its ACKS robot model kit series: the "AV-98" Ingram Unit 2 (イングラム2号機). This highly anticipated kit is slated for a December 2021 release.
"Mobile Police Patlabor" (機動警察パトレイバー) was created by the five-member team HEADGEAR. It first began serialization in Shogakukan's "Weekly Shonen Sunday" in 1988, followed by a TV anime adaptation in 1989. Since then, the franchise has expanded to include novels, OVAs, feature films, and even a live-action TV series. The story primarily follows the daily lives of the Special Vehicles Section 2 (SV2), a police unit stationed on reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay, equipped with large humanoid robots known as "Patlabors." Their duties range from routine traffic management to confronting unknown monsters, often amidst tense situations, but occasionally punctuated by comedic moments, such as the entire unit getting food poisoning from lunch.
This ACKS series AV-98 Ingram Unit 2 model kit from Aoshima is also rendered in 1/43 scale, standing approximately 19 cm tall. The design is the latest version, supervised by renowned mechanical designer Yutaka Izubuchi. It boasts high articulation at various joints, allowing for a wide range of dynamic poses. The opening mechanisms for the leg-mounted and chest cockpits are also perfectly reproduced. Naturally, it comes with a same-scale figure of Unit 2's pilot, Isao Ota. Weapon accessories include a revolver, a stun stick, and a riot shotgun.
