Following the release of the protagonist units Dragonar-1 Custom and Dragonar-3 from the classic robot anime "Metal Armor Dragonar," BANDAI SPIRITS' Collectors Division is set to complete the team with the HI-METAL R series' Dragonar-2 Custom, slated for release in January 2022.
"Metal Armor Dragonar" (機甲戦記ドラグナー) is a 48-episode TV robot anime produced by Sunrise from 1987 to 1988. The story follows the Gigano Empire (ギガノス帝国), which established a government on the moon, as it wages war against the Earth Federation. Protagonist Ken Wakaba, along with his comrades Tapp and Light, accidentally acquire the Dragonars. After their home colony is destroyed by the Gigano Empire, they begin piloting the Dragonars to fight back against the empire.
The HI-METAL R Dragonar-2 Custom (ドラグナー2カスタム), or D-2 for short, is piloted by team member Tapp. While the D-2 has weaker mobility compared to the other two units, it boasts the strongest firepower among the trio. It also features a built-in refueling system, allowing it to provide aerial resupply to allied units (a "Resupply" skill in Super Robot Wars games). This Custom version features enhanced armor and flight performance, and is equipped with powerful armaments like the Photon Bazooka.
The "Lifter-2" flight unit on the unit's back not only carries two long-range rocket launchers but can also be freely attached or detached, and its wing sections can bend and transform. Accessories include four pairs of interchangeable hand parts, along with weapon accessories such as a rifle, knife, and missile launcher. A dedicated display stand featuring the D-2 logo is also included.
