BANDAI SPIRITS Collectors Division's TAMASHII NATIONS has announced the latest addition to their "S.H.MonsterArts" series, which combines intricate kaiju sculpting with outstanding articulation. The "King Ghidorah (2019) Special Color Ver." from "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" is slated for release in January 2022.
Making its debut in "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," King Ghidorah is the kaiju known as "Monster Zero." Discovered by the Monarch organization dormant within the Antarctic ice, it was forcibly awakened by an eco-terrorist group's scheme. While initially believed to be a "Titan" like Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan, meant to maintain Earth's order, King Ghidorah is actually an extraterrestrial species that invaded Earth billions of years ago. Its three heads possess distinct personalities, and it boasts powerful regenerative abilities. Its sheer size is considered the largest in the franchise's history, capable of unleashing wide-ranging Gravity Beams from its mouths, wings, and tails. Its presence also generates typhoon-like downpours and lightning storms in its surrounding environment.
The "S.H.MonsterArts King Ghidorah (2019) Special Color Ver." shares the same base sculpt as the previously released standard version. Sculpting supervision was handled by Shinichi Wakasa, with prototype production by Taichi Yamada. The figure faithfully recreates Ghidorah's imposing on-screen appearance and massive scale, standing approximately 25 cm tall with an impressive 60 cm wingspan. It also features excellent articulation design, with multiple joints in its neck and tail for dynamic posing.
This version addresses the somewhat disappointing earthy yellow plastic color of the previous release. The entire body has been repainted with a vibrant gold, giving it a magnificent luster that better suits its "King" title and also pays homage to the traditional colors seen in Toho's versions. Collectors who missed out on the original release should consider grabbing this Premium Bandai reissue to add the dazzling Legendary King Ghidorah to their collection!
