The ultimate armored warrior is here! SEGA PRIZE, the prize figure division of Japan's SEGA, is set to release a new character figure from the classic anime series "Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai," which is currently airing. Following the protagonist Dai, the next character to join the lineup is Hyunkel (ヒュンケル), with a scheduled release date of August 27th.
"Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai" (ドラゴンクエスト ダイのだいぼうけん) is an anime adaptation based on Japan's beloved "Dragon Quest" RPG series. Written by Riku Sanjo and illustrated by Koji Inada, the manga began serialization in Shueisha's "Weekly Shonen Jump" in 1989, eventually collected into 37 volumes. A new anime adaptation premiered in October 2020, with its latest installment being episode 43. The epic story follows the protagonist, Dai, as he transforms from a weak boy into a true hero through a series of grand adventures and battles.
Hyunkel, a remarkably cool character in the anime, was initially a disciple of the hero Avan, alongside Dai and others. However, a misunderstanding led him to believe Avan killed his father, driving him to join the Demon Lord's army as the commander of the Undead Legion. His formidable armor, the "Armor of Darkness," was bestowed upon him by the Great Demon Lord Vearn. With a shout of "Amd" (アムド), the armor automatically equips itself, offering defense against most offensive spells and possessing regenerative capabilities. Coupled with his signature special move, "Bloody Scryde" (ブラッディースクライド), his demon sword can pierce through any enemy, making him incredibly powerful.
This SEGA PRIZE Hyunkel figure stands approximately 17 cm (6.7 inches) tall. It captures Hyunkel in a dynamic pose, mid-execution of his famous special move, Bloody Scryde. The intricate details of his formidable armor are faithfully recreated. While it's a minor drawback that his cool face isn't fully visible, fans of the series or those following the anime will still want to check this out.
