BANDAI SPIRITS' Hobby Division, renowned for producing Gunpla models with cutting-edge technology, announced today (18th) a brand-new multimedia project, "Gunpla-kun," aimed at further promoting the joy of building Gunpla. The project will feature short promotional videos, magazine serializations, merchandise, and more.
The stars of "Gunpla-kun" are the Gunpla models themselves, produced at Bandai's Shizuoka factory. These include iconic Mobile Suits like the RX-78-2 Gundam and MS-06 Zaku II, reimagined in a unique, adorable two-head-tall cartoon style. Through their charming designs and stories, they aim to convey the fun of Gunpla building.
The story begins one early morning when a mysterious light suddenly emanates from the production line at the BANDAI HOBBY CENTER, giving birth to unknown Gunpla runners:
・Gunpla-kun
Self-proclaimed protagonist, Gunpla-kun overflows with pride and passion for being a model kit. He activates with an overly enthusiastic and boisterous energy, determined to spread the joy of model building to the world!
・Zakupla-kun
An unknown Zaku II model born at the same time as Gunpla-kun, Zakupla-kun also activates to fulfill the same mission. However, he is calmer than the overly passionate Gunpla-kun, reliably supporting his actions from the sidelines. Yet, as a mass-produced unit, Zakupla-kun secretly harbors an inferiority complex...
・Char Zaku-kun
An unknown Char's Custom Zaku II model, his proud demeanor is merely a facade to hide his delicate personality. In reality, he's quite easily discouraged...
Starting August 19th, "Gunpla-kun" is slated to release 10 short promotional videos, each approximately one minute long. From September, six types of acrylic keychains will be available at the official flagship stores, GUNDAM BASE Tokyo and Fukuoka. Furthermore, a new serialization titled "I Tried Making My First Gunpla!!" will begin in the October issue of the men's fashion magazine "smart," with the November issue featuring a special appendix: a reversible storage pouch showcasing both classic and new Gunpla box art.
