Good Smile Company today announced the latest addition to its affordable, pre-painted "POP UP PARADE" figure series: Saber Alter from the "Fate/stay night" franchise, scheduled for release in December 2021.
Artoria's Alter form (Saber Alter) first appeared in the "Heaven's Feel" route of "Fate/stay night." Absorbed by Sakura Matou, who had become the Black Grail, her body was corrupted by "All the World's Evils." This process manifested her latent doubts, self-reproach, and anger, transforming her into a cold, ruthless tyrant. Even her holy sword was blackened into the demonic Excalibur Morgan. Linked to Sakura as the Grail, Saber Alter possesses a near-infinite supply of magical energy, allowing her to repeatedly unleash the dark-tinged "Excalibur Morgan."
The "POP UP PARADE Saber Alter" stays true to the line's accessible price point of 3,900 JPY and stands at a standard 17-18cm tall. The figure captures the malevolent presence of the jet-black Knight King, with metallic paint used on her visor and armor to create a heavy, textured feel. The deep crimson markings resembling bloodstains are faithfully recreated, and her menacing ten-fingered pose adds to her intimidating aura.
In a surprising move, this figure may be one of the very few Saber Alter releases that does not include her demonic sword, "Excalibur Morgan." The absence of this imposing weapon, which she rarely parts with in the story, seems to diminish her powerful presence somewhat. While likely a decision made to meet the line's budget, it's still a notable omission for fans.
