The "Mobile Suit Gundam G-FRAME" shokugan series, released by BANDAI CANDY, has launched nearly a hundred different Mobile Suits since its debut in 2018. Its immense popularity stems from its excellent "movable frame" concept. Collectors assemble the approximately 11 cm tall Mobile Suits by combining finely segmented armor parts with the articulated inner frame and weapons. For a shokugan line, both the sculpt and articulation are remarkably impressive.
As the long-running "Mobile Suit Gundam G-FRAME" series approaches its 14th wave, Bandai announced a brand-new project, evolving from G-FRAME, set for official unveiling on October 1, 2021. They also revealed a silhouette of the new "ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam" from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED".
With "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" celebrating its 20th anniversary, a new theatrical film in the works, and the life-sized Freedom Gundam statue unveiled in Shanghai, Bandai has been releasing a plethora of new products featuring the protagonist's Freedom Gundam. Given the previous releases of the Earth Alliance's initial GAT-X series mobile suits, its appearance in G-FRAME is hardly a shock, and many collectors have undoubtedly been anticipating the Freedom Gundam's arrival.
Regarding the new project, a recent example from BANDAI CANDY's own SUPER MINIPLA line offers some insight. After its revamp into the SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT, the overall sculpt and color accuracy significantly improved, reducing the need for sticker-based color correction and simplifying assembly. Could G-FRAME follow a similar path, addressing issues like hollow parts and incomplete sculpts?
