Hello, fellow collectors! Today, we're sharing a fantastic original character creation based on the concept of an intelligent extraterrestrial lifeform.
In June 2021, the U.S. government released several UFO videos, reigniting the long-standing debate about the existence of aliens.
Alien designs offer a wide canvas for creativity, drawing inspiration from humans, beasts, insects, and even abstract light or elemental forms. However, most designs tend to follow the established archetype: pale skin, large eyes, a small nose and mouth, and a slender build. This project embraces those classic features while adding high-tech accessories to give the alien the distinct feel of an explorer or hunter.
The creator notes they were a bit out of practice with digital sculpting, so they started by blocking out the basic form in 3ds Max. After exporting an FBX file, the model was brought into ZBrush for detailed sculpting, texturing, and final posture adjustments. 
Since the piece was intended for 3D printing, the parts were separated along clean lines that would be easy to fill and sand later. The feet were accidentally stretched out a bit too long, a mistake that was carefully corrected by heating and reshaping the plastic post-print. This piece was printed using an FDM printer, so layer lines were inevitable, but their appearance was minimized through dry brushing techniques. With no access to an airbrush due to pandemic lockdowns, the figure was hand-painted with acrylics, using layered washes and water-based weathering to build up color and create a blended effect. 
When working with digital sculpting software, the creator mentions that the ease of using features like "undo" and "copy" can sometimes lead to adding excessive textures or muscle details. This can inadvertently disrupt the fundamental form and proportions, requiring constant readjustments to fix the model's overall shape.
The pointed head was designed to create a sense of balance with the body's arched posture.
Of course, being an alien, the logic of its anatomy doesn't have to be too constrained.
Still, a helmet for this being would probably have to be shaped like a chimney!
The body incorporates power-assisted devices to enhance its physical capabilities.
The long rifle it holds helps to balance the figure's center of gravity. The model was split into parts—arms, upper torso, and lower torso—with cuts planned around the decorative elements and optimized for the print size. The final print orientation was adjusted after reviewing the support structure layout. 
After cleanup, it was time for paint. The main and secondary colors were decided first, then gradually built up through hand-painting, color mixing, and washes to define the entire form.
For any minor warping or imperfections, the creator notes that one of the benefits of FDM printing is that you can use heat to gently bend or press parts into shape—but be extremely careful not to overheat the plastic!
