Japanese figure manufacturer KOTOBUKIYA, known for its highly detailed three-dimensional figures of Japanese ACG characters, has announced details for the latest addition to its "ARTFX J" series: "Dai" from "Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai." This new figure is slated for release in March 2022 and will be available in both a standard edition and a more lavish DX Edition.
The protagonist, Dai, was washed ashore as an infant on a monster-infested island and raised by Blas, the demon-faced sorcerer. Energetic and possessing a strong sense of justice, he yearns to be a "Hero" and aims to become an exceptional one. Dai harbors a special mystery surrounding his origins, having inherited the powerful "Dragon Crest" of a Dragon Knight, granting him exceptional physical abilities and magical aptitude, though his skills are still unrefined. Under the tutelage of Avan, the former Hero, Dai gradually mastered powerful sword techniques and spells while battling the Dark Army.
The "ARTFX J Dai 1/8 Scale Figure" standard edition features sculpting for his face and outfit that closely matches the original manga. It captures Dai in a dynamic pose, wielding his sword in a reverse grip as he unleashes the powerful "Avan Strash." The scabbard on his back can be swapped between early and late-series designs, and his waist and wrists can be slightly rotated to adjust his pose. His right hand also features a built-in LED light-up gimmick; connecting the included USB cable to the base will illuminate the Dragon Crest on the back of his hand!
The DX Edition additionally includes figures of Gomechan, the golden metal slime, in both normal and sleeping states, as well as a figure of Blas, who raised Dai, allowing for display alongside Dai!
