Chinese premium statue brand Light Year Studio, under official license from Toei Animation, has announced a new limited-edition collectible based on the nostalgic classic anime "Ikkyū-san." The "Ikkyū: The Four Seasons" Diorama Statue will be available in four distinct versions representing Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Pre-orders are now open, with an expected release in the third quarter of 2022.
The classic TV anime "Ikkyū-san" is based on the historical Zen Buddhist monk Ikkyū Sōjun from Japan's Muromachi period, with stories partially adapted from the folktales of "Ikkyū-banashi." The series follows the adventures of Ikkyū, a young former prince who is separated from his mother and sent to train as a novice monk at Ankoku-ji Temple. Using his brilliant intellect and sharp wit, he helps the local townspeople solve all sorts of problems. The show's blend of humor and educational themes made it a beloved classic for children, and its iconic theme song remains a nostalgic favorite for many.

The "Ikkyū: The Four Seasons" diorama statue from Light Year Studio measures approximately 22.6cm tall and 24cm long. It vividly recreates a serene scene with Ikkyū meditating peacefully under the eaves of a temple while his childhood friend, Sayo-chan, sweeps nearby. The sculpt meticulously captures Ikkyū's cross-legged pose and his wise, tranquil expression. Sayo-chan is also perfectly recreated, complete with her bright, sparkling eyes and signature top-knot hairstyle. Beyond the realistic paintwork and rich details of the traditional Japanese architecture, the scene also includes a Teru Teru Bōzu (sunshine monk) hanging from a tree, a nod to the show's ending theme. With interchangeable parts to represent Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, the statue evokes the gentle, poignant feeling of the ending song, "Hahaue-sama" (Dear Mother). Collectors can get all four seasons at once by purchasing the complete set!
