Bandai Namco Group announced today (15th) at the "2nd GUNDAM Conference" that following the highly acclaimed and popular "Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue" in Odaiba, Tokyo, a brand new "Life-Sized RX-93ff ν Gundam Statue" will be built in Fukuoka, Japan in Spring 2022!
Fukuoka, located in Japan's Kyushu region, has been a key area for Bandai Namco Group's extensive development of "Mobile Suit Gundam" related businesses since the opening of Japan's second official Gunpla flagship store, "THE GUNDAM BASE FUKUOKA," in 2019, continuously fostering close collaboration with the local community. In Spring 2022, Kyushu's first Mitsui Shopping Park "LaLaport Fukuoka" will open in Hakata, Fukuoka, where Bandai plans to launch multiple projects including the "Life-Sized ν Gundam Statue" and "GUNDAM PARK FUKUOKA."
The "RX-93 ν Gundam," which will be recreated as a life-sized statue, hails from the classic 1988 film "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack." It is the cutting-edge mobile suit piloted by protagonist Amuro Ray, most notably featuring six Fin Funnels mounted on its back. However, constructing a statue with those six Fin Funnels would likely pose structural integrity and safety concerns. Therefore, Bandai enlisted anime director Yoshiyuki Tomino to supervise the project, resulting in a newly designed weapon that can be supported by the ground: the "Long-Range Fin Funnel" (ロングレンジ・フィン・ファンネル). Its massive size is incredibly impactful, and the statue also boasts unique color schemes and markings specific to this version.
Furthermore, Bandai will also open "GUNDAM PARK FUKUOKA," a brand new Gundam-themed attraction, at LaLaport Fukuoka. This entertainment facility, a collaboration between BANDAI NAMCO Amusement (responsible for operating large arcade games) and BANDAI SPIRITS (responsible for the model and toy business), will combine open spaces with Gundam elements, introducing a new form of Gundam facility unlike any seen before.
