Japanese collectible manufacturer GOOD SMILE COMPANY today (17th) announced the upcoming release of "Nendoroid MIKUDAYO 10th Anniversary Ver." from the "Hatsune Miku" series, slated for June 2022.
The enigmatic digital entity known as "Mikudayo" (ミクダヨー), a peculiar take on Hatsune Miku, originated as a mascot costume created by SEGA for the Tokyo Game Show 2011 to promote the "Nendoroid Hatsune Miku" product. However, her design—featuring plump cheeks, vacant eyes, and an inexplicably hunched posture—stood in stark contrast to the adorable Nendoroid figures. This subtly unsettling appearance quickly garnered attention, transforming her into a widespread meme across Japanese social media. Rather than shying away from the mockery, the copyright holder embraced the phenomenon, registering Mikudayo as a trademark and officially incorporating her into promotional campaigns, even going so far as to produce a dedicated program for her.
The new "Nendoroid MIKUDAYO 10th Anniversary Ver." utilizes the same body sculpt as the 2015 release but comes packed with a variety of accessories that commemorate her 10-year journey, primarily inspired by SEGA's game promotion show, "Mikudayo to Issho Dayo" (ミクダヨーといっしょダヨー).
Beyond promoting the Nintendo 3DS game "Hatsune Miku: Project mirai 2," the show primarily featured Mikudayo and dancer Julia Kawakami in various comedic skits, further cementing Mikudayo's unique personality distinct from Hatsune Miku.
The extensive array of accessories includes the subtly unsettling "MIKUDAYO-yaki" pastry, the surprisingly cute "MIKUDAYO Deluxe Plush Pouch," a "Giant Tuna Sushi Button" for quiz show segments, a "Please Give Me Your Ticket" sign (seen when she couldn't get tickets), a "Kneeling Lower Body" part, and a "Banner" with interchangeable stickers, allowing fans to recreate hilarious scenes from the show!
