Following the release of their Captain Carter figure, Hong Kong-based toy manufacturer Hot Toys has officially announced a new 1/6 scale collectible set from the MARVEL animated series "What If...?", featuring The Hydra Stomper and Steve Rogers! The set is slated for release in Q1–Q2 2023.
WARNING: The following content contains spoilers for "What If...?" Please proceed with caution.
In the first episode of "What If...?", Peggy Carter receives the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers, leaving him as the scrawny kid from Brooklyn. However, thanks to the humanoid combat armor known as The Hydra Stomper, built by Howard Stark, Steve gains the formidable power needed to defend his nation. Let's first look at the 1/6 scale Steve Rogers figure. Standing approximately 28 cm tall, it boasts 30 points of articulation, faithfully recreating his military green pilot jumpsuit from the show. The head sculpt captures the animated series' aesthetic while incorporating intricate skin textures. Accessories include a backpack and multiple gloved interchangeable hands.
Next up is The Hydra Stomper. This impressive piece stands approximately 56 cm tall and is crafted from soft vinyl, meticulously replicating its military green outer armor, intricate mechanical details, back thrusters, numbering, star emblem, and extensive weathering across its body. Both the eyes and chest feature LED light-up functions. The upper body includes 8 points of articulation, covering the head, waist, arms, and hands. With an openable helmet and chest armor, the Steve Rogers figure can even be placed inside to recreate various battle poses! However, this editor personally finds the lack of articulation in The Hydra Stomper's lower body a slight disappointment.
