Following the release of the "Type-3 Kiryu EVA Unit-01 Color Ver." from the "Godzilla vs. Evangelion" crossover project, Japanese model manufacturer Aoshima Bunka Kyozai (AOSHIMA) has announced the highly anticipated return of the "Type-3 Kiryu Kai EVA Unit-02 Color Ver." under its ACKS plastic model kit brand. This popular item is priced at 14,850 JPY and is slated for release in June 2022!
Mechagodzilla, which appeared in the 2003 film "Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla: Tokyo S.O.S." (ゴジラ×モスラ×メカゴジラ 東京SOS), was severely damaged in its previous battle with Godzilla in "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla." Having lost its right arm and the Type-3 Absolute Zero Cannon, and with no hope of repairing its primary weapon, it was refitted with the Triple Hyper Maser Cannon, boasting 30 times the attack power of the Maser Cannon. Its right arm was also equipped with the Type-4 Anti-Beast Drilling Device, leading to its designation as "Type-3 Kiryu Kai."
As "Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time" brought the "Rebuild of Evangelion" saga to a thrilling conclusion, the "Godzilla vs. Evangelion" dream collaboration project, initiated by director Hideaki Anno after his work on "Shin Godzilla," makes its return. The "Type-3 Kiryu Kai EVA Unit-02 Color Ver." utilizes the standard kit's highly detailed frame, intricate armor, and extensive weaponry. It has been re-colored to evoke the red-themed EVA Unit-02, with parts molded in colors closely matching the original design. Crucially, many detail sections are pre-painted, allowing for a high-quality finish straight out of the box with simple snap-fit assembly that requires no glue, while also offering excellent articulation.
Standing at an impressive 24 cm tall, the model faithfully reproduces the updated 2003 design following its modifications. The chest, when opened, reveals three additional clamps, and its hands can transform into drill-type weapons, representing the Type-4 Anti-Beast Drilling Device. The shoulder-mounted weapon backpack has also been redesigned with separated sections on both sides, housing various missiles. This is all complemented by the distinctive vibrant red coloring characteristic of EVA Unit-02, accented with orange and white details, creating a unique appearance that is both familiar and refreshing. It's an unmissable collectible for both Godzilla and Evangelion fans!
