MODEROID Kuromukuro Plastic Model Kit Announced for Anime's 5th Anniversary!

The Japanese MECHA SMILE brand's plastic model kit series, "MODEROID," announced today (the 16th) the upcoming release of its latest product, the "MODEROID Kuromukuro," based on P.A.Works' original robot anime "Kuromukuro." It is slated for release in May 2022.

The story of "Kuromukuro" centers on the United Nations' "Kurobe Research Institute" in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, which is dedicated to excavating and studying ancient artifacts. Sixty years prior, a roughly 20-meter-tall humanoid mobile weapon, the "Kuromukuro," along with a mysterious giant cube (the Kuromukuro's cockpit), was unearthed. One day, the institute is attacked by enigmatic enemies known as "Oni." Amidst the chaos, protagonist Yukina Shirahane awakens a Sengoku period samurai, Kennosuke Tokisada Ouma, who had been dormant within the cube. Only these two are capable of piloting the "Kuromukuro." As they assist the institute in repelling the "Oni," the truth of their world gradually comes to light.

The "MODEROID Kuromukuro" meticulously recreates the mecha's on-screen appearance through its multi-colored molded parts, pre-painted components, and included stickers. It faithfully reproduces the unique joint structure and articulation design from the series. The Super Vibration Blade is designed to be sheathed, allowing collectors to pose the kit in various dynamic and iconic stances from the anime. While the cockpit block, "The Cube," is detachable, it does not transform into a vehicle as seen in the show. The box art features an exclusive new illustration specially drawn by mechanical designer Ariaki Okada!
