Following the release of the standard RX-78F00 Gundam, BANDAI SPIRITS' collector's division, TAMASHII NATIONS, has announced the latest addition to its classic die-cast toy line, "Chogokin." The new "Chogokin x GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA RX-78F00 GUNDAM -Night illuminated ver.-" brings the life-sized Yokohama Gundam to life in collectible form, with a release date set for October 22, 2021.
Standing tall at Yokohama's Yamashita Pier, the "RX-78F00 Gundam" showcases a significantly different design compared to previous iterations of the original Gundam. Unlike the Odaiba Gundam, which more closely adheres to its classic design, the Yokohama Gundam features a smaller head and backpack. Incorporating suggestions from director Yoshiyuki Tomino, its silhouette is visually more slender, resembling newer Gundam designs released in recent years. Bandai's lore for the RX-78F00 establishes that after the One Year War, Amuro Ray's long-missing "RX-78-2 Gundam" was discovered by Earth Federation facilities in East Asia. Utilizing extensive wreckage found near "GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA," the unit was researched, analyzed, and rebuilt, ultimately resulting in the "RX-78F00 Gundam"—a backstory that explains its distinct departure from the original machine's appearance.
The "Chogokin x GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA RX-78F00 GUNDAM -Night illuminated ver.-" boasts highly detailed, sharp armor sculpting. Its paint scheme has been updated to reflect the facility's night illumination show, featuring deeper armor colors and enhanced brightness for the navigation lights on the shoulders and knees. Multiple joints are crafted from die-cast metal, providing a satisfying sense of weight during posing. The thigh armor incorporates a sliding mechanism, allowing it to retract backward when the knee joint bends, reducing interference. Furthermore, the head's main and sub-cameras, along with the chest vents, include built-in light-up features!
Other accessories remain consistent with the standard version, including a rich array of weaponry such as the Beam Saber, Beam Rifle, Shield, and a newly designed Hyper Bazooka. It also comes with multiple interchangeable hand parts and a display stand. The display stand, designed with "GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA" branding, features unique patterns and can also store and showcase the included armaments.
