MEDICOM TOY, the renowned Japanese toy company, recently unveiled a new addition to its 6-inch MAFEX action figure line: the MAFEX MARVEL "Spider-Man Black Costume (Comic Ver.)"! This highly anticipated figure was originally scheduled for release in July 2022.
The Symbiote Costume, also famously known as the Black Suit, made its iconic debut in *Amazing Spider-Man* #252 during the original Secret Wars event. Peter Parker, in an attempt to repair his damaged costume, activated a mysterious machine that unexpectedly bonded a sentient symbiote to him. This living suit not only fully repaired his tattered threads but also significantly enhanced Peter's strength and even the durability of his web-shooters. However, Peter soon grew suspicious of the suit's increasingly strange and possessive behavior, ultimately leading him to seek its removal.
Standing approximately 15.5 cm (about 6.1 inches) tall, this figure likely reuses the base body from the previously released "Comic Ver. Spider-Man." However, the sculpt faithfully recreates the character's distinct black body and the iconic large spider emblem on both the chest and back, directly inspired by its comic book appearance. The figure includes three head sculpts: two masked versions and one unmasked Peter Parker head. The unmasked head features the symbiote creeping up, a cold, almost sinister expression, and subtle stubble that adds a rugged visual effect. Accessories include multiple web effects, a web backpack, and several interchangeable hand parts. Combined with its excellent articulation and an included display stand, collectors can pose Spider-Man in a wide array of dynamic, action-packed stances.
