Japanese company Sentinel (株式会社千値練) has announced the latest addition to its robot-themed articulated figure series, "METAMOR-FORCE," with the upcoming release of "Steel Jeeg a.k.a. JEEGFRIED" from the "Steel Jeeg" franchise, slated for May 2022.
The robot anime "Steel Jeeg," created by Go Nagai, Tatsuya Yasuda, and Dynamic Planning, is best known for its signature "magnetic combination" system. Its cyborg protagonist, Hiroshi Shiba, transforms his own body into the head, then uses magnetic force to combine with various body parts to form the giant robot "Steel Jeeg." Beyond powerful beam attacks utilizing magnetism, Hiroshi Shiba's exceptional judo skills also grant Steel Jeeg formidable close-quarters combat abilities. The robot can also equip its iconic optional armament, the "Mach Drills," using the crimson drills to pierce through enemies of the Jamada Empire during high-speed flight.
However, this particular release features a design that deviates from the original anime. Sentinel has collaborated with Dynamic Planning to introduce a completely new interpretation, blending American comic book aesthetics with transformable toy elements. Manga artist Kazuya Hoshi was also brought in to contribute to the design, resulting in the "Steel Jeeg a.k.a. JEEGFRIED." While maintaining the classic silhouette and color scheme, the mecha's internal structure is entirely new, boasting a full transformation mechanism that allows it to convert into a car.
True to the original series, the included figure of protagonist Hiroshi Shiba can not only ride in the cockpit of the car mode but also transform into Steel Jeeg's head, combining with the car's transformed body! For weaponry, the figure comes with two sets of Jeeg Bazookas, the Balmung Sword, and a pair of vibrant red "Mach Drills." These can be attached to the sides of the car mode via internal magnets or directly connected to Steel Jeeg's arms!
The product also includes an approximately 60-page full-color manga of "Steel Jeeg a.k.a. JEEGFRIED," illustrated by Kazuya Hoshi. Additionally, a manga adaptation of "Dino Getter," which was featured in the very first METAMOR-FORCE release, is also included!
