BANDAI SPIRITS' TAMASHII NATIONS, a division known for its exquisite monster figures under the "S.H.MonsterArts" series, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of "Godzilla vs. Hedorah" with the highly anticipated new release: the "S.H.MonsterArts Hedorah 50th Anniversary Special Set"! This set will retail for 19,800 JPY and is slated for release in June 2022.
Released in 1971, "Godzilla vs. Hedorah" (ゴジラ対ヘドラ) was the 11th film in the Godzilla series. It introduced Hedorah, a mineral-based extraterrestrial lifeform that arrives on Earth and, influenced by the planet's pollution, absorbs sludge, exhaust fumes, and other contaminants, transforming into the colossal "Smog Monster."
Hedorah evolves through four distinct forms: the Water-Dwelling Form, Landing Form, Flying Form, and Final Form. In its Landing Form, it walks on four legs, possesses the ability to melt steel, and can shed its outer skin to escape when necessary. The Flying Form emits toxic black smoke as it soars, capable of reducing humans to skeletons. Due to its amorphous and unstructured body, most physical attacks prove ineffective against it.
The "S.H.MonsterArts Hedorah 50th Anniversary Special Set" masterfully integrates S.H.MonsterArts' articulation technology into Hedorah's distinctive, slimy, sludge-like body. It perfectly captures the terrifying characteristics of Hedorah's Final Form, standing approximately 17 cm tall. Its two large red eyes, the vibrant, multi-colored pollutant hues across its body, and its intricate sculpt are all faithfully reproduced. Multiple articulation points in the arms and tail ensure dynamic and natural posing.
Beyond the Final Form Hedorah, this special set also includes two additional forms: the Flying Form and the Water-Dwelling Form. The Flying Form comes with a dedicated clear display stand, allowing collectors to recreate its airborne appearance. The Water-Dwelling Form features its own exclusive base, perfect for depicting the iconic scene where only its head emerges from the water.
