Japan's GOOD SMILE COMPANY is set to release a new pre-painted PVC figure of Tomura Shigaraki, the primary antagonist leader from the hugely popular anime and manga series "My Hero Academia," as part of its affordable "POP UP PARADE" line. The figure is slated for an April 2022 release.
The hit series "My Hero Academia" (僕のヒーローアカデミア) began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Jump" in 2014. The fifth season of the anime concluded on September 25th this year, with the official announcement of a sixth season already in production. The story centers on protagonist Izuku Midoriya, who, despite dreaming of becoming a hero as great as his idol All Might, was born without a Quirk. His journey begins when he learns All Might's true identity and inherits his Quirk, leading him to enroll in U.A. High School where he encounters a diverse cast of characters. The manga's distinct personalities and its exaggerated, American comic book-inspired art style are among the key factors contributing to its immense popularity.
In the original story, Tomura Shigaraki serves as a crucial leader of the villainous "Paranormal Liberation Front." His striking and somewhat grotesque appearance is defined by the fourteen severed hands adorning his body. Born Tenko Shimura, he endured a profoundly tragic past; despite once aspiring to be a hero, he faced relentless abuse and rejection from his father. One fateful day, his "Decay" Quirk awakened, leading him to accidentally kill his entire family. He was subsequently discovered by All For One, who adopted him, became his mentor, and renamed him Tomura Shigaraki. His lifelong conviction is to dismantle the current society, its systems, and the very symbol of heroes, All Might.
This POP UP PARADE Tomura Shigaraki figure stands approximately 17 cm (about 6.7 inches) tall, faithfully recreating his iconic appearance from the series.
