Following their popular movable capsule toys like the sliding penguins and constantly eating hamsters, Japanese capsule toy maker Kitan Club (キタンクラブ) is set to release another inventive line under their "Creature Gimmick Series": the "Rolling Wind-Up Dung Beetle" (ころころゼンマイ フンコロガシ) capsule toys! There will be five different designs, each priced at 300 JPY per play, with a release scheduled for late November 2021.
Starring the "Dung Beetle," a type of scarab beetle known for feeding on animal droppings, these capsule toys capture the iconic pose of a dung beetle, inverted and using its hind legs to push a perfectly spherical ball of dung. A wind-up mechanism is cleverly integrated inside the dung ball. Simply hold the dung ball, rotate it to wind up the mechanism, and release it to watch the approximately 5 cm diameter ball spin and roll forward. It perfectly recreates the hilarious sight of a dung beetle rolling its precious cargo! The lineup features dung beetles in various shell colors, including black, red, blue, and green. Beyond the metallic finish on the beetles, the dung balls also boast subtle color variations.
