BANDAI SPIRITS' TAMASHII NATIONS, a division dedicated to collectible toys, today unveiled the prototype for the latest addition to its popular "Soul of Chogokin" alloy toy series: the "MFS-3 Kiryu" from the tokusatsu kaiju film "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla." Release date is yet to be determined.
Appearing in the 2002 film "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla," this particular Mechagodzilla is known in-universe as "Kiryu," officially designated as the "Multi-purpose Fighting System Type-3 (MFS-3)." This Kiryu was secretly constructed by the Japanese government using the skeleton of the original Godzilla, salvaged from Tokyo Bay, as its framework. Its propulsion system is controlled by a "DNA computer" built from Godzilla's bone marrow cells, allowing Kiryu to move with biological swiftness, execute fluid close-quarters combat, and even evade Godzilla's atomic breath. It also boasts a formidable arsenal, including missiles, railguns, MASER cannons, and the Type 3 Absolute Zero Cannon. However, the immense G-forces generated during operation are too extreme for a human pilot, necessitating remote control via its support aircraft, the "AC-3 Shirasagi."
The "Soul of Chogokin MFS-3 Kiryu" will be fully supervised by designer Shinji Nishikawa. Compared to the previous Chogokin release (GD45) from several years ago, this new Kiryu utilizes the latest manufacturing techniques to achieve even more intricate detailing, conveying a sense of metallic rigidity and sharpness. It will feature a large scale and eye light-up gimmicks, and will also come with various armaments such as a "backpack unit" and "wrist railguns" to recreate its powerful battle poses from the film. Development is currently around 60% complete, with more information expected to be revealed progressively.
