The HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS company, renowned for its highly diverse 1/144 scale Gunpla lineup, the "HG (High Grade)" series, recently announced its latest product: the "HG 1/144 Black Rider." This new kit, stemming from the game "Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy," is slated for release in February 2022.
The RX-80BR Black Rider, Prototype Unit 3 of the "Pale Rider Project," previously existed only in textual lore. Now, with its appearance in the recently launched "Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy" game, the unit finally receives a complete design. Conceived as a specialized electronic warfare test mobile suit, the Black Rider features a prototype tactical equipment called "steelyard" on its back, resembling a balance scale. It also incorporates the "THEMIS System," a precursor to the "simplified HADES System."
The "HG 1/144 Black Rider" builds upon previously released Pale Rider kits, utilizing new parts to faithfully recreate its distinctive head, chest, arms, and waist. These new details include the head's sensor unit, wrist-mounted grenade launchers and anchors, and miniaturized heat vents. The disc-shaped "steelyard" on its back is highly articulated, allowing for flexible rotation via movable joints. The kit also comes equipped with a Heat Dagger and Rail Cannon. Furthermore, two types of stickers are included to replicate the color variations between its normal state and its THEMIS System activated state.
