Bandai Spirits' Hobby Division has officially announced its latest Master Grade Gunpla from "Mobile Suit Gundam F90": the MG 1/100 Gundam F90 (Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type), scheduled for release in April 2022. This item will be sold exclusively through the official Premium Bandai online store.
The F90-01 Gundam F90 was a new mobile suit developed in U.C. 0111 by the Strategic Naval Research Institute (SNRI) as part of their "Formula Project" for MS miniaturization. It featured a compact, high-output design, reinforced armor utilizing a micro-honeycomb structure, and a new, smaller Minovsky fusion reactor. It was even capable of simulating the combat personalities of Amuro Ray and Char Aznable, making it a crucial foundation for the later Gundam F91 and Crossbone Gundam series. The history of Unit 2 is particularly complex; in U.C. 120, it was captured and heavily modified by the Mars Independent Zeon Forces, also known as the "Oldsmobile Army." They removed its signature Mission Pack hardpoint system, re-equipping it to support their own armaments and enhancing the mobile suit's overall standalone performance.
Making its debut in the Master Grade line, the Gundam F90 (Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type) is based on the previously released Gundam F90 kit but utilizes about 90% newly molded parts for its frame and exterior. This faithfully recreates its unique design, which incorporates Zeon-style elements like an antenna-less head, shoulder spikes, and smooth, rounded armor curves. A newly designed set of water-slide decals is also included to add even more detail.
The kit's armaments include a newly tooled, exclusive beam machine gun, a beam saber that can be stowed on the backpack, and anti-MS grenades mounted on the side skirt armor. A set of open "flat hands" is also included to enhance the variety of dynamic combat poses. The kit will also feature brand-new, full-color box art.
