Ring in the New Year with a splash of new color! Japanese toy brand ELECTRIC TOYS' new sofubi-focused label, SOFVIPS (ソフビップス), is set to release special new color variants of protagonists Maruko and her best friend Tama-chan from the classic family anime series "Chibi Maruko-chan" (ちびまる子ちゃん)! These charming vinyl figures are slated for a June 2022 release.
A shared memory for many, "Chibi Maruko-chan" first debuted as a manga in 1986, followed by its anime adaptation in 1990. For over three decades, it has maintained significant popularity, serving as a heartwarming and comforting series for countless fans. Creator Momoko Sakura drew inspiration from her own childhood experiences, transforming them into a series of delightful stories. Characters like her father Hiroshi, grandfather Tomozou, best friend Tama-chan, and her classmates have all become household names.
Although the author passed away in 2018 due to illness, the anime continues to air (the manga serialization has concluded), and related events and merchandise are still actively being released.
