The Ultra-Violent Hero with Dissociative Identity Disorder! "Moon Knight" Trailer Easter Eggs & Detail Analysis

Disney+ officially released the trailer for the Phase Four new series "Moon Knight" on January 18th, announcing its premiere on March 30, 2022, with a total of 6 episodes. Moon Knight is the first new hero to appear in a series in Marvel's Phase Four. The protagonist of this series is played by Oscar Isaac, who has been seen in many well-known blockbusters in recent years, and Jeremy Slater serves as the head writer. Its exciting level is highly anticipated. Before the official release, follow our special report to delve into the secrets of "Moon Knight"!

1. The Man Who Has Played Three Marvel Characters
The protagonist Marc Spector is played by the renowned Guatemalan-American actor Oscar Isaac. He gained recognition early in his career for his outstanding performances in various films and rose to commercial fame by playing Poe Dameron in the "Star Wars Sequel Trilogy" and the villain Apocalypse in "X-Men: Apocalypse." He also voiced "Spider-Man 2099" Miguel O'Hara in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." This time, portraying Marc Spector/Moon Knight marks his third time playing a character in a Marvel adaptation.

2. Head Writer Jeremy Slater
The head writer for this series is Jeremy Slater. He previously successfully adapted the comic "The Umbrella Academy," which received enthusiastic acclaim and became one of the most popular series on Netflix.

3. Have You Noticed Today's Moon Phase?
Moon Knight's abilities are closely tied to the moon; his strength, physique, speed, and endurance all increase with moonlight, reaching their peak during a full moon. Disney intentionally chose to release the trailer today because today's moon phase is a full moon.

4. Sleep Disorder
At the beginning of the trailer, the protagonist Steven seeks help from a sleep center due to severe sleep problems that make it difficult for him to distinguish between waking and dreaming. In reality, Steven suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder. In addition to using an app to help track his sleep, he also has to lock his room door with a padlock and shackle himself to prevent switching to another personality and leaving the house while asleep (but would other personalities know his password?). Furthermore, the Rubik's Cube he plays with seems to allude to the Dissociative Identity Disorder he faces. This plot is reminiscent of Chuck Palahniuk's classic novel "Fight Club," which was adapted into a film in 1999.

▼ In addition to heavy restraints, it can be noticed that Steven even sprinkled a circle of sand by his bed to check if he switched to another personality and left the bed after falling asleep.

5. Dissociative Identity Disorder (MPD)
Although we see the character played by Oscar Isaac named Steven Grant in the trailer, his true identity is Marc Spector. A small detail that might be difficult for audiences unfamiliar with English to notice is that Marc uses different accents and tones when switching between personalities. In the comic's original setting, Marc was initially a CIA agent who later became a mercenary. Besides Moon Knight, Marc possesses three other personalities and identities:

- Marc Spector (original personality) / Former CIA, mercenary / Represents "Skill"
- Steven Grant / Millionaire / Represents "Funding"
- Jake Lockley / Taxi driver responsible for intelligence gathering / Represents "Information"

Based on the current trailer footage, it is unclear whether Steven's identity has been changed to a museum worker, or if Marc is using another personality to infiltrate the museum for a certain plan.

▼ In the scene where Steven turns his head on the bed, the mirror reflects three figures, alluding to his Dissociative Identity Disorder.

6. Adventures of the Soul
Among the stack of books on Steven's desk, one is "Adventures of the Soul: Journeys Through the Physical and Spiritual Dimensions," a real book written by internationally renowned psychic James Van Praagh. It seems Steven wants to study his personality disorder through spiritual means.

7. Day 'n' Nite
The trailer's soundtrack uses "Day 'n' Nite," released by Kid Cudi in 2009. Kid Cudi stated that he wrote this song during sleepless nights caused by the passing of his uncle. "Day 'n' Nite" was selected by the music authority publication Rolling Stone as one of the 25 best songs of 2009.

8. Reflections and Mirrors
Since Marc's multiple personalities can communicate simultaneously within his mind, the film uses a large number of reflections and mirrors to depict the interaction between Marc and his split personalities. Perhaps we will once again see scenes similar to the 2002 "Spider-Man," where Norman Osborn/Green Goblin talks to himself in a mirror.

▼ Although the trailer seems to focus on Steven, the CC subtitles on the official channel mark the name of the speaking character, thus revealing the existence of the original Marc.

9. London's Supernatural Heroes
Steven works at the fictional British museum "National art gallery," but the exterior of this museum is actually a computer-generated composite of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, Hungary. In "Eternals," "Black Knight" Dane Whitman works at the Natural History Museum in London, England. Coupled with the voice-only appearance of Blade, played by Mahershala Ali, at the end of the film, Disney seems to intend to assemble these three superheroes in the UK to form a supernatural team - "Midnight Sons."

10. Book of the Dead
Steven works in the museum's gift shop, selling various exhibition merchandise. One item to note is a "Book of the Dead" puzzle. The Book of the Dead contains powerful spells intended to guide the deceased in fending off various demons and monsters on their journey to the underworld.

▼ In the Marvel universe, there is also a Book of the Dead called the "Darkhold," which appeared in "WandaVision."

▼ Additionally, Marvel has also published a series of comics featuring supernatural creatures: Man-Thing and Frankenstein, titled "Book of the Dead."

11. Khonshu, the Moon God
The ancient Egyptian moon god "Khonshu" is the source of Moon Knight's power. He communicates with Marc through psychic abilities, so in the trailer, it can be noticed that others cannot perceive Khonshu's presence. However, if characters like Doctor Strange or Scarlet Witch, who possess psychic abilities, were present, perhaps they would be able to detect Khonshu?

▼ Look closely and you'll notice Khonshu's skull floats above his body.

12. Sun God "Ra," "Osiris," and "Anubis"
On display is a statue of Atum, the "Creator God" and father of Khonshu. Beside it are stone statues of the ancient Egyptian sun god "Ra," the god of the underworld "Osiris," and the guardian of the dead "Anubis." Furthermore, a mummy can be seen in the mirror's reflection.

13. Mysterious Crocodile
In the same scene, we can notice a crocodile statue in the foreground, and the foldable phone Steven finds in the triangular gap also uses a crocodile as its desktop icon. In ancient Egyptian mythology, there is a crocodile-headed human deity named Sobek, who is the guardian god of protective magic, capable of protecting people from dangers from the Nile River.

14. Who's on the Phone?
According to the official channel's subtitles, the character calling Steven is named "Layla." It is currently uncertain if this is the female lead played by May Calamawy; since the original female lead is Marlene Alraune, this could be a completely new character. Additionally, Reddit users speculate that it could be the mutant "Layla Miller," and if true, Marvel's plans to introduce mutants would arrive sooner than expected.

15. Villain Arthur Harrow
The cult leader villain Arthur Harrow is played by Ethan Hawke. In an interview, he mentioned that when portraying this character, he referenced David Koresh, the cult leader responsible for the "Waco siege." Furthermore, some media outlets have indicated that the series will combine the settings of Arthur Harrow with another villain, Sun King.

16. Mr. Knight
In the previously released Disney+ teaser, Marc can be seen wearing a white glove and suit outfit, resembling Mr. Knight.

▼ Mr. Knight is another version of Moon Knight (or a split personality?). Compared to Moon Knight, Mr. Knight's actions are more thoughtful, calm, and polite.

17. Who is Moon Knight Attacking?
In the original teaser, we saw Moon Knight brutally beating an opponent, but at the time, it was unclear who the target was. In the official trailer, we can see Moon Knight attacking a jackal-like monster, possibly a subordinate of Anubis?

▼ Zooming in on the image allows for a clearer view of the jackal-like monster.

▼ In the Disney Plus Day 2021 teaser, Steven was also seen hiding from a jackal-like monster in the museum.

18. Mummy Transformation
Due to the power of the Egyptian moon god "Khonshu," Moon Knight's transformation method references the appearance of a mummy, with bandages and linen growing from his entire body to form his battle suit.

19. Weapon on the Chest?
Upon closer inspection of Moon Knight's costume, it can be seen that his signature weapon, the "Crescent Dart," which appears on promotional posters, is stored on his chest.
