Herocross BUNDLELAND Up: Wilderness Explorer Russell Deluxe Figure Review

Hong Kong-based toymaker HEROCROSS has been on a roll with large-scale collectibles ever since releasing their massive 60cm Sid figure. But their latest release isn't just about size—it's loaded with an incredible amount of gear. Today, we're diving into the Deluxe Edition of the BUNDLELAND Russell from Disney and Pixar's "Up"!

Released in 2009, "Up" is more than just a thrilling fantasy adventure; it's a deeply moving story about life itself. The film's two protagonists, the elderly Carl Fredricksen and the young Russell, become the most unlikely of friends on their journey to Paradise Falls. With his round physique and a massive backpack overflowing with equipment, the earnest Wilderness Explorer Russell is undoubtedly a fan-favorite character for many collectors.

This BUNDLELAND series figure from HEROCROSS is crafted from vinyl and stands at an impressive 40cm tall. It features a mix of materials including metal, fabric, and nylon, and incorporates details like flocked hair and embroidered sleeve patches, making for a rich and interactive experience. Let's get right to the unboxing.

▼ The front of the box features artwork of Russell against the backdrop of Paradise Falls, with the Deluxe Edition logo and product number on the left.

▼ Compared to the standard edition box on the left, the Deluxe version is significantly larger!

▼ Inside, we find Russell's main body securely packed in black foam, alongside a wealth of accessories.

▼ Most of the parts are individually wrapped in plastic for protection.

▼ Here's a look at all the contents included in the Deluxe Edition.

▼ The instruction manual details the differences between the standard and deluxe versions, the correct arrangement of the Wilderness Explorer badges, how to equip the backpack, and more.

▼ The Russell figure itself features simple articulation in the head, arms, and legs. Getting his hair to match the forward-swept style from the movie takes a bit of work, as it's set back from being in the box. However, with some repeated combing, you can get it looking right.

▼ The sculpting on the shoes and socks is excellent, and combined with his chubby little legs, it's just adorable.

▼ The set includes a 3D-effect backdrop featuring Paradise Falls and a rock-themed display base printed with "UP" and "RUSSELL".

▼ Next up is the super satisfying process of attaching the Wilderness Explorer badges to his sash! They attach with Velcro, but be careful when repositioning them, as pulling them off can warp the sash. We recommend putting the sash on Russell first to find a good starting point, then laying it flat to apply the rest of the badges.

▼ Put on his hat, hand him the GPS and chocolate bar (which he immediately discards in the film), and he's all set!

▼ Unfortunately, the figure does not come with the most prestigious "Ellie Badge," leaving one spot empty. Collectors will have to wait for the release of the upcoming Carl Fredricksen figure in the same series to finally pin the Ellie Badge on Russell.

▼ Now let's check out the accessories exclusive to the Deluxe Edition. You get everything from a flag, cup, canteen, and multi-tool to a pan, a trowel (for digging... you know), a carabiner, a pot, a bugle, and more!

▼ The two pots, bugle, trowel, and compass feature a metallic paint finish, giving them a more premium feel compared to the other plastic accessories. And yes, the bugle actually makes a sound when you blow into it!

▼ The larger accessories include his backpack, a support frame for the pack, and a bedroll.

▼ The backpack contains a piece of foam to help it maintain its puffy shape.

▼ After a bit of effort, all the wilderness survival gear is finally attached.

▼ Once all the gear is hanging from the pack, it makes a delightful clinking and clanking sound with any movement. So cute!

▼ Before putting the backpack on, remember to swap to Russell's alternate hands designed to hold the straps! However, with all the accessories loaded onto the pack, Russell becomes top-heavy and unstable. The bedroll at the bottom of the pack will likely end up resting on the ground.

▼ If you want to pose him as if he's truly carrying the backpack, you can remove some of the gear, adjust the backpack's position, and then slowly add items back on. This will help prevent the pack from dragging on the ground when you take him out for photos!

That wraps up our unboxing of the HEROCROSS BUNDLELAND Russell Deluxe Edition! With its substantial, chubby sculpt and a massive array of accessories, the Deluxe Edition is a must-have for the full, fun-filled experience. Now, we eagerly await the next release in the BUNDLELAND "Up" series: Carl Fredricksen!
