The HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS company, known for its RG (Real Grade) Gunpla series that integrates advanced inner frames, interlocking armor, and cutting-edge technology into 1/144 scale kits, has announced its latest release from "Mobile Suit Gundam MSV": the "RG 1/144 Robert Gilliam's Zaku II," slated for release in May 2022.
This blue and yellow MS-06R-2 High Mobility Type Zaku II (R-2 Type) was piloted by Captain Robert Gilliam, an ace pilot who rose to prominence during the One Year War, serving with the Principality of Zeon's Assault Mobile Force. Only four units of this machine were ever produced, and Robert Gilliam was one of the select aces to receive one, deploying with forces around Granada and amassing over 100 mobile suit kills. While his background lacks a complete official setting, the manga "Universal Century Heroes: Legend of the Rainbow Neon - Shin Matsunaga" portrays him as a ruthless individual who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals, even depicting him as a former member of Gihren Zabi's Royal Guard who participated in the assassination of Shin Matsunaga's father.
The "RG 1/144 Robert Gilliam's Zaku II" is based on previously released High Mobility Type Zaku II kits, featuring an articulated inner frame, high-density detailing, and precise part separation. The entire kit is molded in Robert Gilliam's signature sky blue and light yellow color scheme and comes with newly designed waterslide decals. Armaments include a Giant Bazooka, Zaku Bazooka, Zaku Machine Gun, and Heat Hawk, among other weapons.
