Following their successful 2020 collaboration on the special color edition of the "Guts King - Straw Sandal Yokai," designer toy brand GSToy and Taiwanese cosplayer Newss have once again teamed up in 2022 to revive their "Toy Girl" project. This time, the adorable star of the show is the "Konpeito Kid (Newss Special Color)"!
In GSToy's lore, a sealed Zashiki-warashi (a Japanese house spirit) was accidentally freed when the barrier of its small shrine was broken. With its yokai power diminished, it possessed the "konpeito" candy offered at the altar. Though its powers haven't fully recovered, its mischievous nature remains, leading it to take the form of the candy and play pranks on children in human homes. Over time, it became known as the Konpeito Kid.
The "Konpeito Kid" sofubi toy, crafted by GSToy, stands approximately 10 cm tall. Beyond the traditional star-like appearance of konpeito candy, it features raised, outstretched arms and short legs. Despite its spiky overall design, the rounded curves give this Konpeito Kid an innocent and charming yokai look. This Newss Special Color edition of the Konpeito Kid boasts a vibrant, candy-inspired red and yellow palette, adorned with beautiful gradient colors. Partial transparent materials add an extra layer of depth, while the Konpeito Kid's playful tongue-out expression and tiny teeth make it incredibly cute!
