Bandai's Gashapon division is set to release a new collection for its exquisitely sculpted, compact "HG Series" line, commemorating the tokusatsu film "What to Do with the Dead Kaiju?". Titled "HG Shochiku x Toei Kaiju Festival," this capsule toy series will feature four distinct figures, each priced at an MSRP of 500 JPY. The collection is scheduled to launch in February 2022.
The Japanese tokusatsu film "What to Do with the Dead Kaiju?" (大怪獣のあとしまつ) marks a historic first-time collaboration between Shochiku and Toei. The story kicks off after a giant kaiju is defeated by a hero. While the monstrous threat that terrorized humanity is gone, seemingly resolving a national crisis, a new, terrifying problem emerges: who will handle the colossal corpse, and how? The massive remains could trigger an even more catastrophic event—a corpse explosion. Faced with this unprecedented emergency, Prime Minister's direct agent Arata Tatewaki (played by Ryosuke Yamada) and Environment Minister's secretary Yukino Amane (played by Tao Tsuchiya) are tasked with the monumental challenge of its disposal.
The "HG Shochiku x Toei Kaiju Festival" capsule toy lineup brings together kaiju from Shochiku's "The X from Outer Space" and Toei's "Space Ironmen Kyodain." The collection features the two main kaiju from the "What to Do with the Dead Kaiju?" movie poster, depicted lying defeated: "Hope" and "Mushroom." Also included are Gilala from "The X from Outer Space" and Metalman. Each figure, with the largest standing approximately 9 cm tall, meticulously captures the unique characteristics and eerie designs of these monsters, complete with intricate paint applications!
