BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division, known for its diverse lineup of 1/144 scale Gunpla in the "HG (High Grade)" series, has announced the latest addition from "Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam GHOST": the "HG 1/144 Phantom Gundam," slated for a June 2022 release.
The EMS TC-02 Phantom Gundam is a special-purpose transformable Mobile Suit developed by the Jupiter Republic's hardliners, utilizing data from the previously captured "F99 Record Breaker." It was originally intended to achieve long-distance, high-speed travel between Earth and Jupiter in its "Mirage Bird" cruising form, allowing it to infiltrate and attack key Federation facilities solo. However, the "Minovsky Drive" system was only half as complete as that of the concurrently developed V2 Gundam, leading to extreme instability. To compensate, numerous heat sinks were added across its body to vent excess Minovsky particles, along with multiple I-Field generators to forcibly converge and ensure the propulsion system's functionality. This necessity resulted in its signature "Phantom Light" appearance, resembling ghostly flames emanating from its entire body.
The "HG 1/144 Phantom Gundam" utilizes newly molded parts to faithfully recreate its streamlined armor design and distinct color scheme. The kit features precise color separation and part division for its green, white, and red components, allowing for an accurate depiction of its in-anime appearance straight out of the box. The design prioritizes dynamic and cool posing.
Its articulation is highly flexible, incorporating rolling joints in the shoulders and hips, along with double joints in the elbows and knees. The back wings feature a multi-axis structure, allowing for movement in all directions. Furthermore, by swapping certain parts, collectors can transform it into its "Mirage Bird" cruising form.
For weaponry, the kit includes the Heat Dagger and Butterfly Buster B. Additionally, it comes with "Phantom Light" effect parts that can be attached to the various heat sinks across its body, as well as replacement parts for the head's "Forced Cooling Mode," allowing fans to recreate dynamic scenes from the series.
