Toy People and Dengeki Hobby have previously showcased numerous expert model modifications and creative custom paint jobs. This time, we're excited to share the work of Hong Kong-based artist Sing Chui, who has transformed a Gashapon "EXCEED MODEL DOM HEAD" capsule toy into a breathtaking comic-style masterpiece. The brushstroke-like black and white lines create a powerful visual impact, making it easy to mistake for a hand-drawn illustration on paper!
Sing Chui, the model builder who founded the Facebook group "Yu Mo Tuen," recently unveiled his comic-style custom paint job for the "EXCEED MODEL DOM HEAD YMS-09 Prototype Dom." On the palm-sized 65mm model, he meticulously applied a 2D painting technique. He began with a white primer, then used a fine-tip brush to delineate thick lines along the edges, before adding thinner lines and cross-hatching with an oil-based marker. This intricate process perfectly captures the distinct brushstrokes and detailed lines characteristic of comic art! The stark contrast makes the entire piece incredibly eye-catching, truly appearing as if it were a drawing brought to life.
▼Adjacent to it, the comic-style painted "EXCEED MODEL Gundam Head" is another impressive piece Sing Chui customized back in 2019.
▼Furthermore, group leader Sing Chui generously shared a simple tutorial for achieving the 2D comic style (though, let's be honest, replicating it is far from simple!).
For those interested in more comic-style custom paint jobs, collectors and Dengeki fans are encouraged to join the Yu Mo Tuen group to admire more amazing modifications and exchange ideas!
