Japanese design brand GRAPE BRAIN (脳味噌葡萄), known for captivating collectors with its "Jigoku Neko Onigiri" (ジゴクネコおにぎり) sofubi vinyl figures, is collaborating with Japanese toy manufacturer Stand Stones (stasto / スタンド・ストーンズ). Together, they are set to release the "Jigoku Neko Onigiri ~Onigiri and Strange Companions~" capsule toy series in July 2022! This marks the very first time Jigoku Neko Onigiri has been adapted into a capsule toy format.
For many collectors, the first impression of GRAPE BRAIN's creations is often "strange yet cute, grotesque yet psychedelic." Whether it's the Jigoku Neko with eyes on its hands, the girl character "Nigiru-chan," or the two-mouthed "GERA GERA," each design strikes a unique balance, straddling the line between unsettling and adorable. However, GRAPE BRAIN also produces characters that lean purely into cuteness, like the axolotl "MACARONI." More recently, the brand collaborated with Hong Kong-based sofubi toy maker Unbox Industries to release "Ghostbusters" and "SpongeBob SquarePants"-themed crossover figures.
This capsule toy series features a total of six collectible designs, all centered around the highly popular "Jigoku Neko Onigiri." It includes both standing and sitting poses, available in three color variations: white, black, and red. Standing approximately 6 to 7 centimeters tall, these figures perfectly capture the distinctive aesthetic of Jigoku Neko Onigiri. They also retain the playability of the original designs, featuring articulation in the head, hands, and wrists, allowing collectors to pose them in various ways. We're incredibly excited to see the final product's quality – this is an absolute must-have for any GRAPE BRAIN fan!
