Japanese toy brand WAVE, renowned for its diverse range of model kits and PVC figures, is set to release an assembly model kit of the iconic "God Phoenix" (ゴッドフェニックス). This main vehicle from Tatsunoko's classic anime, "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman," is slated for release in late June 2022.
"Science Ninja Team Gatchaman" (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン) is undoubtedly a shared childhood memory for many born in the 60s and 70s. This Tatsunoko Production anime, first aired in 1972, captivated audiences with its story of Ken Washio leading the five Science Ninja Team members and Dr. Nambu against the invading forces of Galactor. The show's costumes, gadgets, and the team's various vehicles have since become prime inspiration for countless toy products.
The familiar God Phoenix is a crucial symbol for the Science Ninja Team within the series. It serves as a transport and reconnaissance vessel, capable of housing all five Gatchaman members' individual vehicles. Equipped with "Bird Missiles" (バードミサイル) for offensive capabilities, it essentially functions as their mobile base. The God Phoenix's ultimate attack, the universally recognized "Science Ninja Technique: Firebird" (科学忍法・火の鳥), sees the aircraft enveloped in flames as it charges at enemies at high speed.
This WAVE God Phoenix assembly model kit measures approximately 22cm in length and faithfully recreates the original design from the anime. This includes the faithful recreation of the four individual Gatchaman vehicles (G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4) in their stowed configurations, accurately reproduced and capable of being housed within the God Phoenix. Furthermore, intricate details like the Bird Missile launch ports and jet thrusters on the fuselage are meticulously sculpted.
