Hong Kong toy brand ACTION TOYS, known for its "MINI ACTION" and "MINI DEFORMED" robot toy lines, is set to release an articulated figure of Aphrodai A from the classic robot anime "Mazinger Z"! This support robot, piloted by Sayaka Yumi, is slated for a Q3 2022 release.
Created by the renowned manga artist Go Nagai, "Mazinger Z" (マジンガーＺ) is a household name for many, evoking cherished childhood memories. The series first debuted in "Weekly Shonen Jump" in February 1972, followed by its anime adaptation airing on television that October. It later garnered immense popularity worldwide, achieving an astonishing 80% viewership in European countries like Spain and Italy (where a large Mazinger Z statue was even erected), a testament to its enduring appeal.
Aphrodai A (アフロダイＡ), piloted by Sayaka Yumi, daughter of Professor Genosuke Yumi, director of the Photon Power Laboratory, was originally designed as a geological research robot for mining Japanium. However, due to the invasion of Mechanical Beasts, it was repurposed as a support robot for Mazinger Z. Its sole armament is the well-known Photon Beam Missile (光子力ミサイル). Before the Jet Scrander was developed, Mazinger Z even attempted to fly by grabbing Aphrodai A's missiles with its hands.
A hallmark of the MINI ACTION series is its moderate size, typically around 15 cm, making the figures ideal for posing and play, with excellent articulation. This MINI ACTION Aphrodai A faithfully recreates its anime appearance based on the original designs. Accessories include effect parts for the Photon Beam Missile launch and a set of interchangeable hands. Furthermore, this Aphrodai A figure also comes with Mazinger Z's Jet Scrander accessory and interchangeable Iron Cutter parts, which can be equipped by Mazinger Z.
