F:NEX, the high-quality figure brand from renowned Japanese prize figure manufacturer Furyu, is once again collaborating with the prestigious traditional Japanese doll maker Yoshitoku for their popular "Japanese Doll" series. Their latest release features the beloved character Sakura Kinomoto -Japanese Doll- from the classic anime series "Cardcaptor Sakura." This stunning 1/4 scale figure is priced at 168,300 JPY and will be an F:NEX exclusive, produced entirely on a made-to-order basis, with an anticipated release in February 2023.
Located in Tokyo's Asakusa district, Yoshitoku is a venerable Japanese doll maker with a 300-year history. They specialize in crafting Hina dolls for Girls' Day, Goga-tsu dolls (Musha Ningyo) for Children's Day, and various other traditional Japanese cultural dolls. Their corporate motto, "The life of a doll is in its face" (人形は顔がいのち), underscores their meticulous attention not only to high-quality kimonos and armor but especially to imbuing the dolls' faces with soul and exquisite detail.
The seventh entry in the Yoshitoku x F:NEX Japanese Doll series, "Sakura Kinomoto -Japanese Doll-," stars Sakura from "Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc," the celebratory sequel marking the series' 20th anniversary. Crafted in an impressive 1/4 scale, the figure stands approximately 36 cm tall. Upholding Yoshitoku's renowned spirit, Sakura's natural skin tone, rosy cheeks, and sparkling eyes are meticulously sculpted, capturing her sweet, radiant smile. She gently holds a cherry blossom branch, with her signature ahoge and flowing hair dynamically sculpted, complemented by an array of colorful hair accessories that enhance her adorable and beautiful, spring-like presence.
The costume prototype was meticulously crafted by doll artisan Ayumi Uyama, perfectly recreating CLAMP's iconic design with its voluminous pleats. The fabric itself comes from Banto Shoten, a historic textile shop in Kyoto. Furthermore, the obi (belt) was created by Tsumami Zaiku Ichirindo, a Tokyo-designated traditional craft studio. Its light blue and pink color scheme, interwoven with gold threads, exudes nobility and elegance. This exquisite piece beautifully connects Sakura Kinomoto's name with the beauty of traditional Japanese craftsmanship through the symbolic cherry blossoms.
