The 60th Shizuoka Hobby Show Returns This May After Two-Year Hiatus

After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic—which saw the event canceled in 2020 and general public access restricted in 2021—the "Shizuoka Hobby Show" is finally making its grand return this year. This major model exhibition, held annually since 1959 in Shizuoka, Japan's plastic model manufacturing hub and often called the "model capital of the world," will host its long-awaited 60th edition from May 11-15, 2022.

With a history spanning over half a century, the "Shizuoka Hobby Show" is organized by the Shizuoka Model & Educational Materials Cooperative Association, which comprises three prominent model manufacturers: Tamiya, Aoshima Bunka Kyozai, and Hasegawa. The event is traditionally held annually on the third weekend of May at the Shizuoka Industrial Support Center, where numerous renowned Japanese model companies, showcasing everything from plastic models to remote-controlled vehicles, attend to display their latest products.

For this year's 60th Shizuoka Hobby Show, attendees can look forward to a robust lineup of exhibitors. The event will feature 16 plastic model and hobby tool manufacturers, including industry giants like Bandai Spirits, Kotobukiya, TOMYTEC, and GSI Creos. Additionally, several members of the Japan Radio Control Model Manufacturers Association (JRM) will be present, such as Kyosho, HiTEC, Kondo Kagaku, and Futaba Denshi Kogyo. Enthusiasts can eagerly anticipate the latest product announcements and physical prototype reveals from all participating companies!
