Following the RE/100 Lindwurm Gundam, BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan has officially announced the second Mobile Suit from "Gundam Build Divers Genius Head Line": the "MG 1/100 Gundam Ex-Impulse," slated for an August 2022 release. This highly anticipated kit will be available exclusively through the Premium Bandai online store.
"Gundam Build Divers Genius Head Line" is a new project serialized in the "GUNDAM HOBBY LIFE" magazine. It's set within the GBN online game from "Gundam Build Divers," portraying a popular channel dedicated to showcasing notable battles. Renowned modeler NAOKI is responsible for both the Mobile Suit designs and the story, with each installment introducing a different machine and narrative.
The second Mobile Suit designed by NAOKI, the "Gundam Ex-Impulse," is featured in the story as a high-mobility unit built by Manfred von Sakazaki, leader of the "Azure Sky Brigade," using the Impulse Gundam as its base. While the main body remains largely unchanged, its internal structure has been reinforced for greater durability. Its most distinctive feature is the original "Ex Phantom Equipment" backpack, which boasts two transformation modes—a cruising form and a high-speed mobility form—allowing for agile, almost acrobatic flight maneuvers.
The "MG 1/100 Gundam Ex-Impulse" kit is based on the previously released standard Impulse Gundam, but features numerous new parts for its head, chest, arms, waist, and legs, along with a redesigned beam rifle. These new components, rendered in fresh molding colors, accurately capture the model's distinct appearance. The newly engineered "Ex Phantom Equipment" backpack also faithfully replicates its variable wing mechanism. True to the original Mobile Suit's iconic separation gimmick, the Ex-Impulse can break down into its Chest Flyer, Leg Flyer, Core Splendor, and Ex Backpack components. The kit also includes newly designed water-slide decals, featuring the "Azure Sky Brigade" emblem and other intricate markings.
