Bandai Spirits' Tamashii Nations collectible toy division is releasing a new S.H.Figuarts figure. Following the 2018 S.H.Figuarts releases of Japanese comedy duo DOWN TOWN's Hitoshi Matsumoto and Masatoshi Hamada, to celebrate DOWN TOWN's 40th anniversary, they are now launching the commemorative new "S.H.Figuarts Hitoshi Matsumoto -Ultimate Boke-" action figure! Priced at 7,700 JPY, it's slated for an October 2022 release!
Veteran comedian Hitoshi Matsumoto, affiliated with Japan's long-standing entertainment agency Yoshimoto Kogyo, hails from Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture. In 1982, he joined the first class of Yoshimoto's talent training school, Yoshimoto Kogyo's New Star Creation (NSC), alongside his elementary school friend Masatoshi Hamada. They later broke into the entertainment world as the manzai duo "DOWN TOWN." Distinguishing themselves from traditional fast-paced manzai, their performances, characterized by clever pauses and surreal humor, earned them critical acclaim and widespread popularity among younger audiences. They rose to fame across Japan through manzai, variety shows, and commercials. Globally, they are also well-known for their "No Laughing" punishment games, a popular segment from the "Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!!" variety show. Matsumoto, who plays the "boke" (straight man/fool) role, became a role model for junior comedians with his cool, deadpan performance style.
The "S.H.Figuarts Hitoshi Matsumoto -Ultimate Boke-" action figure stands approximately 14.5 cm tall. Based on the 2018 release, this version features a newly sculpted upper body. While dressed in a suit, the figure's bulging chest lines, abdominal thickness, and the taut wrinkles in his suit convey Matsumoto's more muscular physique! Additionally, utilizing digital printing technology that meticulously reproduces his real-life facial features, the figure includes new "expressionless," "smiling," and "frustrated" face plates. Paired with five interchangeable hand parts (left and right), fans can recreate his iconic poses and various comedic expressions from his shows!
