BANDAI SPIRITS' Tamashii Nations collector's division is set to release a new S.H.Figuarts action figure: the S.H.Figuarts Hamada Masatoshi -Kyūkyoku no Tsukkomi-! This commemorative release celebrates the 40th anniversary of the legendary Japanese comedy duo DOWN TOWN, following the 2018 S.H.Figuarts Matsumoto Hitoshi and Hamada Masatoshi figures. Priced at 7,700 JPY, the figure is slated for an October 2022 release.
Hamada Masatoshi, a veteran entertainer under the renowned Japanese comedy agency Yoshimoto Kogyo, was born in Osaka's Naniwa Ward before moving to Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, during kindergarten. In 1982, Hamada, alongside Matsumoto Hitoshi (whom he had known since elementary school), joined the first class of Yoshimoto's entertainer training school, the Yoshimoto Kogyo Comprehensive Geino Academy (NSC). They later debuted in the entertainment industry as the manzai duo DOWN TOWN. As the *tsukkomi* (straight man), Hamada is famous for his signature "fierce head slaps" as a comedic retort, along with other aggressive methods like flicking foreheads and kicking butts. He often employs a "fearless" and impolite *tsukkomi* style, delivering relentless blows to amplify the comedic effect. Beyond his work as a comedian, Hamada has also excelled in various fields, including acting, voice acting, singing, and hosting.
The S.H.Figuarts Hamada Masatoshi -Kyūkyoku no Tsukkomi- action figure stands approximately 14.5 cm tall. Building upon the 2018 release, this updated version features a newly sculpted upper body, presenting Hamada in a more formal black suit with a gray tie, and an updated black hair color. Leveraging advanced digital printing technology to meticulously capture his real-life facial features, the figure includes three newly sculpted interchangeable face parts: a "serious face," a "big laugh face," and a "frustrated face" with wrinkled features. These can be combined with five pairs of interchangeable hand parts to recreate his iconic on-screen poses and various comedic expressions!
▼Pair him with his partner, the S.H.Figuarts Matsumoto Hitoshi -Kyūkyoku no Boke-, for even more display possibilities!
