Japan's official Mobile Suit Gundam Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, recently announced that its latest store-exclusive limited item, the "MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos Expansion Parts Set [Clear Color]," is scheduled to go on sale starting June 11, 2022.
ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos is one of the 72 Gundam Frame mobile suits built during the "Calamity War" 300 years ago. After the war, it was abandoned in the Martian desert. Although its armor deteriorated after centuries of neglect, its frame performance remained as good as new. It features a lightweight body, high mobility, and high versatility, capable of armor upgrades and equipped with various armaments, making it suitable for close-quarters melee weapons. In the series, Tekkadan also utilized newly developed modern armaments and salvaged parts to repeatedly customize Gundam Barbatos.
The "MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos Expansion Parts Set [Clear Color]" uses the same kit as the previous regular release. It includes a wealth of accessories such as armor for various forms, thrusters for various forms, wrist mortars/machine guns, and the Wrench Mace, allowing it to be combined with the separately sold "MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos [Clear Color]" for customization, recreating six forms: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 5th Ground Battle Specification, and 6th!
The limited edition features parts molded in various clear colors, and some gray parts have been changed to a metallic molding color similar to gunmetal. Once completed, it not only displays a unique high-transparency luster but also reveals the mechanical internal frame structure. This makes it more convenient for special customization techniques such as lighting and glow-in-the-dark paints, presenting a style different from regular Gunpla.
