BANDAI CANDY, the Shokugan division of Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., recently announced the latest product from its Ultraman action figure Shokugan series "Shodo α": "Shodo α Ultraman Shin Ultraman," which is scheduled for release in October 2022. This product will be sold exclusively on Bandai's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
The Japanese tokusatsu hero monster film "Shin Ultraman," co-produced by Tsuburaya Productions, Toho, and Khara, reinterprets the 1966 tokusatsu TV series "Ultraman." Similar to "Shin Godzilla," released in 2016, it reconstructs the work with a modern societal backdrop, aiming to allow audiences to once again experience the shock of "seeing Ultraman for the first time on television."
The Ultraman appearing in the film adopts Toru Narita's original design, returning to its roots. Numerous monsters and aliens also feature fresh designs, distinct from previous series. This "Shodo α Ultraman Shin Ultraman" not only introduces the Toru Narita version of Ultraman with highly articulated specifications but also marks the first 3D realization of the newly designed "Alien Zarab" and "Alien Mefilas" from this version!
▼ All three figures stand approximately 10 cm tall and feature flexible articulation throughout their bodies. They perfectly recreate the ideal "Ultraman" envisioned by the late designer Toru Narita, devoid of elements like the color timer, peeping holes, or dorsal fins that arose from commercial or costume considerations. Its purely slender and streamlined physique embodies truth, justice, and beauty. Included accessories like interchangeable hands and beam effects allow for the recreation of his signature finishing move, the "Specium Ray."
▼ This version of Alien Zarab also references Toru Narita's past designs, perfectly recreating its inorganic-like face and slender limbs as seen in the film. The latter half of its body is made with large transparent parts, faithfully reproducing the appearance of "only the front half having its optical camouflage disengaged."
▼ Compared to its original design with short, stout limbs and a beer belly, the "Shin" version of Alien Mefilas has become completely tall, slender, and handsome. Its smaller head results in a high body-to-head ratio, and while its alien-like feel is slightly reduced, it has become more formidable. The figure also features flexible articulation throughout its body, allowing for poses such as holding both arms outstretched when firing its beam attack.
