"Unfold the pencil case completely, press all the function buttons, deploy the ruler-pen bomber, anti-aircraft missiles deployed."
If there's a childhood memory that reveals one's age, recounting the above certainly points to children of the 80s and 90s. This time, Japanese gashapon manufacturer J.DREAM is turning a cool item that many young boys once dreamed of into a gashapon! The "Gimmick Pencil Case" (ギミック筆箱マスコット) is set to release in October 2022.
These "Gimmick Pencil Cases," which once caused a sensation in elementary school classrooms, might not hold many pens, but they were packed with incredibly cool features. These included hidden compartments, a pen platform that could be pressed inward to arch up, pull-out mini drawers, and more. Combined with various vehicles made from pencils, rulers, compasses, and pencil sharpeners, they truly became powerful fortresses and secret bases that made little boys' eyes sparkle.
The J.DREAM release this time meticulously recreates these "Gimmick Pencil Cases" at a length of approximately 5 cm. In addition to spaces for erasers and pencils, they feature a built-in pencil sharpener, pull-out magnifying glass, and ruler storage. What's more, you can press a button to activate the pen platform's pop-up function – it's absolutely fantastic! There are five styles to collect: "Space Shuttle," "Robot," "Race Car," "Shoujo Manga Style A," and "Shoujo Manga Style B." Relive those wonderful childhood memories with the included mini pencil, ruler, and eraser!
