Japanese toy company Kotobukiya is set to release a 1/8 scale figure of the antagonist character "Hadlar" from the classic popular series "Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai", as part of their "ARTFX J" statue series! It is scheduled for release in December 2022.
"Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai" (ドラゴンクエスト ダイのだいぼうけん) is adapted from the Japanese national RPG game "Dragon Quest". Riku Sanjo was responsible for the original story, and Koji Inada for the artwork. It began serialization in Shueisha's manga magazine "Weekly Shonen Jump" in 1989, with a total of 37 tankōbon volumes. The latest remake anime adaptation began airing in October 2020 and is currently ongoing. The story primarily narrates the grand tale of protagonist Dai, who transforms from a weak boy into a true hero through a series of adventures and battles.
Hadlar (ハドラー, formerly translated as Batra) was initially the Commander of the Demon Army, known as "Demon Lord Hadlar." After being defeated by Avan, he was resurrected by the dark magic of the Great Demon Lord Vearn and his confidant Mystvearn, and from then on, he relentlessly pursued Avan's disciples. To gain overwhelming power, he even abandoned his own flesh, willingly allowing himself to be transformed into a Super Demon Creature by Demon Army General Zaboera. He led his Royal Guard Knights into battle against Dai and his companions, pushing them into desperate struggles. After his final battle with Dai, to save Dai and Popp, he willingly withstood Death God Killvearn's death trap, causing his body to shatter. At the moment of his death, he was saved by the resurrected Avan, and finally passed away in the arms of his archenemy.
This ARTFX J Hadlar figure, released by Kotobukiya, is an exclusive item available only at the Kotobukiya Online Shop. Crafted in 1/8 scale, it stands approximately 37 cm tall. Its appearance faithfully recreates Hadlar's form after his complete transformation into a Super Demon Creature. The "Sword of Champions" in his right hand is poised, as if he is about to unleash Hadlar's ultimate technique, the "Super Demon Blazing Blast," ready for action.
