Following the highly acclaimed "Red-Eyed Crocodile Skink & Black-Eyed Crocodile Skink," Bandai's GASHAPON capsule toy brand is releasing another popular addition to its premium new series, "Creature Encyclopedia Ultimate," with the "Armadillo Lizard" gashapon. Scheduled for release in August 2022, it will feature four variations, with a reference price of 2,000 JPY per capsule.
The "Creature Encyclopedia Ultimate (Ikimono Daizukan Advance)" series boasts top-tier size, sculpting, and articulation, offering even more realistic details and exquisite paintwork compared to standard "Creature Encyclopedia" products. This latest "Creature Encyclopedia Ultimate Armadillo Lizard" differs from the previous "Dango Mushi 07 Armadillo Lizard Edition," featuring a completely new sculpt. It includes four variations: Armadillo Lizard (Yellow), Armadillo Lizard (Dark Brown), Armadillo Lizard (Black), and Armadillo Lizard (Mosaic).
Recreated at the Armadillo Lizard's longest recorded size, it measures approximately 210 mm in total length. Details such as its armor-like spiky scales and round eyes are meticulously sculpted. The entire body features 35 points of articulation, allowing for natural poses, vividly displaying a gaping threat, and recreating its curled tail and tail-biting defense posture. Japanese biological sculptor Masahiro Sato was invited to handle the prototype production, with Akira Tominaga, editor-in-chief of the reptile specialty magazine "Vivalium Guide," overseeing the color supervision, thoroughly reproducing the complex osteoderm scales and realistic, biological paintwork!

The Armadillo Girdled Lizard is a lizard with a unique appearance and behavior, also known as the South African Armadillo Lizard or Armadillo Lizard, belonging to the genus Ouroborus. Its body is flattened, with a light brown or dark brown coloration, and is covered in thick, sharp, armor-like osteoderm scales, earning it nicknames like "Armored Little Dragon" or "Pseudo Dragon." When threatened, it bites its own tail, curling its body into a ball to protect its soft underside, and can quickly "roll away." It is also known as the Tail-Biting Spiny Lizard.
