Released by the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., the 'HG (High Grade)' series of 1/144 scale Gunpla, known for its diverse range of mobile suits, today announced the latest product from the manga "Mobile Suit Gundam AGGRESSOR", the "HG 1/144 Red Rider", following the Black Rider and White Rider, scheduled for release in October 2022.
The RX-80RR Red Rider is designated as Prototype Unit 2 of the 'Pale Rider Project' mobile suit development program, and is deployed with the AGGRESSOR unit, composed of Zeon defectors within the Earth Federation Forces. In addition to armaments identical to those of the Ground Type GM, it also features a prototype 100mm machine gun capable of deploying a heat sword from its barrel, and a dedicated shield named "Zweihänder", which can deploy a massive beam blade for use as a greatsword. This unit also incorporates the HADES system, characteristic of the Pale Rider series, though it utilizes "AREUS", one of its experimental predecessors. In this unit, AREUS is used to test parameters such as restriction lifting and pilot load, and is paired with the "Rymm Va" electro-resuscitation device in case the pilot experiences shock.
The "HG 1/144 Red Rider" is based on previously released Pale Rider series kits. Not only are the molded colors replaced with its characteristic red and white scheme, but new parts are also used to recreate its head, chest, legs, and armaments, including the prototype 100mm machine gun and Zweihänder shield. These can be used as a standard machine gun and shield in normal operation, and with the beam effect parts from the armor accessories, can recreate its impressive gunblade and greatsword forms. Furthermore, the shoulder joints have been revamped to allow forward rotation, enabling more natural two-handed greatsword poses.
A set of decals is included with the accessories, which can reproduce the AGGRESSOR unit's emblem, and also change the color of various heat vents on the mobile suit to recreate its normal state or its appearance with the AREUS system activated.
