Following the popular "Red-Eyed Crocodile Skink & Black-Eyed Crocodile Skink" and "Armadillo Lizard," Bandai's GASHAPON capsule toy brand's new premium series, "Ikimono Dai Zukan Ultimate," is now releasing the highly anticipated "Crested Gecko" capsule toy. Scheduled for release in September 2022, it will feature four variations, with each capsule priced at 1,500 JPY (tax included).
"Ikimono Dai Zukan Ultimate (いきもの大図鑑アドバンス)" boasts top-tier size, sculpting, and articulation design, offering even more realistic details and exquisite paintwork compared to the standard "Ikimono Dai Zukan" series. This latest release, the "Ikimono Dai Zukan Ultimate Crested Gecko," transforms the arboreal gecko, known for the crown-like protrusions on its head, into an articulated capsule toy. Measuring approximately 160 mm in total length, its entire body features 26 points of articulation. With interchangeable tongue parts, it can even recreate the Crested Gecko's iconic pose of licking its eyes! The collection includes four variations: Normal, Patternless, Bicolor, and Harlequin Dalmatian.
It thoroughly recreates the characteristic triangular head, large round eyes, prominent dermal spines on its circular skin, and granular scales of the Crested Gecko. Makoto Kobo, a Japanese biological modeling studio, was invited to supervise the prototype, with sculptor Mitsuhiko Hosokawa responsible for the articulated structure. Akira Tominaga, editor-in-chief of the reptile specialty magazine "Vivalium Guide," oversaw the color supervision, meticulously restoring realistic details from every angle. Since Crested Geckos lack eyelids, the pose of them licking dust from their eyes with their tongues is also vividly recreated, fully showcasing the adorable charm of the Crested Gecko!
